From Turkey Tales to Nutcracker Nights
A little holiday magic, a lot of personality
Thanksgiving & Christmas dresses for book lovers, teachers, librarians, and anyone who thinks festive fashion should tell a story.
The holidays are coming, which means two things: my reading pile is about to get taller, and the calendar is filling up with parties, school celebrations, family dinners, and events that all seem to require an outfit.
I love holiday clothing, but I want something with a little personality—something I can wear to work, dress up for a gathering, and still feel comfortable in while reaching for another helping of pie.
So I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite seasonal dresses at Toadstool Thrift & Craft. There are bookish turkeys, a Christmas storybook classic, and an entire tiny winter town full of curious cats. Naturally.
Thanksgiving, but Make It Bookish
For teachers, librarians, Friendsgiving hosts, and anyone who considers pie a food group.
The Well-Read Turkey

Turkeys, pumpkins, fall botanicals, and one studious bird with a book: it’s Thanksgiving with a literary twist. The warm pumpkin, cranberry, and teal palette gives this long-sleeve dress a playful, retro folk-art feel.
How I'd style it: Try brown ankle boots and a chunky cardigan for school, Friendsgiving, or the big family dinner.
Turkeys Reading Cookbooks

A little kitchen humor for readers who also love a good holiday meal. This turkey-and-cookbook design is made for Thanksgiving spirit without surrendering your bookish personality.
How I'd style it: Add a simple belt, tights, and boots; you’ll be ready for story time or seconds of pie.
A Storybook Christmas & Cozy Winter
Seasonal style that feels festive in December—and, in one case, long after the decorations are packed away.
Nutcracker Storybook Christmas Dress

Classic nutcracker soldiers, greenery, and delicate florals on a soft blue-gray background give this dress the feel of a well-loved Christmas storybook. It’s festive, nostalgic, and more charming than a sweater with flashing lights (although no judgment).
How I'd style it: Pair it with a cardigan and boots for a library workday or dressier shoes for a holiday gathering.
Cats in the Windows

For those who prefer a whisper of winter to full-on Christmas red and green: colorful vintage-style townhouses, falling snowflakes, glowing windows, and tiny cats keeping an eye on the neighborhood. It’s quietly festive and wonderfully quirky.
How I'd style it: Wear it with dark tights and a cozy scarf all winter long.
Three Easy Ways to Wear a Holiday Dress
Make it classroom-friendly: Pair it with a cardigan, comfortable flats, or ankle boots.
Dress it up: Add a belt, simple jewelry, and tights for a holiday party or dinner.
Keep it cozy: Layer with a warm scarf or sweater when the New Hampshire winter makes its entrance.
These featured long-sleeve dresses have soft, stretchy polyester fabric, a flowing silhouette, and easy-care, machine-washable construction. Check each listing for current sizes and details.
Wear a Little Holiday Story
The best holiday outfit isn’t necessarily the fanciest one. It’s the one that makes you smile when you put it on—and maybe makes somebody else stop and ask, “Wait, is that turkey reading a book?”
If that sounds like your kind of fashion, I think we’ll get along just fine.
Happy holidays and happy reading! — Jessie, Toadstool Thrift & Craft
