Vintage Bookish Halloween Clothing for Teachers, Librarians & Readers.
There are two kinds of Halloween people.
There are the people who toss a plastic spider on the front desk on October 30 and call it festive.
And then there are our people, the ones who start thinking about Halloween while everyone else is still complaining about humidity. The teachers planning their October outfits, the librarians preparing displays six weeks early, and the book lovers who firmly believe every season would be improved by adding ghosts, witches, and an unreasonable number of books.
For those wonderfully spooky souls, I’ve created two new vintage-inspired Halloween print collections: Ghosts in the Stacks and Bookish Witches.

Both patterns were designed by me with a vintage, storybook feel. They’re playful without looking like they were borrowed from a preschool bulletin board, spooky without being gruesome, and bookish enough to make your favorite librarian feel seen.
Meet Ghosts in the Stacks
Imagine an old library after closing.
The lights are low. The shelves creak. A book mysteriously falls to the floor even though nobody is there.
Is it a draft?
Of course not. It’s a ghost. And apparently, it has excellent taste in literature.
Ghosts in the Stacks combines bookish imagery, friendly spectral visitors, and traditional folk-art styling. The result feels like something discovered in an old illustrated storybook, charming, slightly mysterious, and just spooky enough.
The print is available on:
Two different dress styles
Short- and long-sleeved tops
A cozy zip-up hoodie
Canvas slip-on shoes
Printed clog sandals
Current prices for the collection range from approximately $26 to $45, so you can add some personality to your fall wardrobe without taking out a second mortgage at the pumpkin patch.
The clog sandals are made from flexible EVA with vent holes and a pivoting heel strap, ideal for teachers and librarians who spend most of the day on their feet, despite repeatedly announcing that they are “just going to sit down for one minute.” The slip-on shoes feature canvas uppers, rubber outsoles, and removable EVA insoles.
The zip-up hoodie has a soft, warm interior, a full zipper, and a kangaroo pocket, making it perfect for chilly mornings, outdoor duty, fall field trips, or aggressively air-conditioned school buildings.
Now Summoning: Bookish Witches
Perhaps ghosts aren’t quite your thing.
Perhaps you prefer your Halloween wardrobe with a little more magic, a few more books, and the unmistakable energy of a woman who has already answered the question that was clearly explained in the email.
Enter Bookish Witches.
This print celebrates witches who read, which is honestly the safest kind of witch. A well-read witch understands research, checks her sources, and probably returns her cauldron books on time.
Probably.
The Bookish Witches collection includes:
A knee-length Halloween dress
A long-sleeved flowy dress
Short-sleeved shirts
A zip-up hoodie
Slip-on shoes
Low-top canvas sneakers
Printed clog sandals
The collection currently ranges from about $34 to $43, with several different clothing and footwear options for mixing, matching, and quietly taking over the entire month of October.
The knee-length dress has a V-neck, long sleeves, a roomy silhouette, and a flounced hem that gives it movement without requiring you to sacrifice comfort. In other words, it looks polished enough for work but still allows you to bend down and retrieve the twelve pencils that somehow rolled under a table.
The hoodie adds a warmer option for late October, while the shoes and clogs let you wear the print even when a head-to-toe witch ensemble might be considered “a bit much” by people who are clearly no fun.
Designed for Grown-Up Halloween People
I love Halloween, but I don’t always want clothing that is neon orange, covered in glitter, or decorated with cartoon pumpkins shouting “BOO!”
These prints were designed for adults who enjoy Halloween but still want something they can wear to work, the library, a book club, a fall festival, or a casual weekend outing.
The vintage-inspired colors and folk-art details make them easy to wear throughout the season, not just on Halloween itself.
Perfect for Teachers, Librarians, Educators, and Book Lovers
There is something especially fun about wearing clothing that connects with the people around you.
Students notice a ghost reading a book. Library visitors spot the tiny details in a dress. Another teacher asks where you found your witchy shoes. Suddenly, your outfit becomes a conversation starter and possibly the inspiration for someone’s next book.
These pieces are especially fun for:
October classroom outfits
Library displays and events
Halloween spirit days
Book fairs
Fall conferences
Story times
Book club gatherings
Casual Fridays
Anyone whose personality can best be described as “books, but make them haunted”
They also make memorable gifts for the educator or reader who already owns plenty of mugs. Please. Step away from the mug aisle. She has enough.
Affordable, Original, and Made with a Little Mischief
Every print begins with an idea and is created by me for Toadstool Thrift & Craft. I love combining old illustrations, vintage aesthetics, books, and unexpected bits of humor to create designs that feel different from the mass-produced options found everywhere else.
The Halloween collection includes pieces at several price points, with most currently falling between $26 and $45. Each item is custom-made, and Toadstool Thrift & Craft offers free shipping on shop orders. Because the pieces are made on demand rather than pulled from a warehouse shelf, clothing and accessories generally take longer to arrive than the ephemera products, usually about 4 to 10 days.
So ordering early is strongly encouraged.
Your future October self will thank you.
Your current self may briefly forget what you ordered and receive a delightful, spooky surprise in the mail.
Either way, everybody wins.
Choose Your Halloween Reading Personality
Are you a Ghosts in the Stacks person quietly haunting the shelves, rearranging books, and judging anyone who dog-ears a page?
Or are you a Bookish Witches person brewing tea, collecting stories, and muttering powerful spells such as, “Please check the syllabus”?
Fortunately, you don’t actually have to choose.
Browse the new Halloween collection, find your favorite style, and prepare to become the best-dressed person in the library, classroom, book club, or pumpkin patch.

Spooky season is coming.
Dress accordingly.
